Be Careful What You Wish For Many years ago at an FM radio station in the southwest, the big on-air promotion was
the "$1,000 Song of the Day"... you know what I'm talking about here. They play
the song during the morning show.... when you hear it again later in the day, be the right
caller and the money is yours. The only problem was that this station put their winners on
the air live.... there was no tape machine in the studio. Well, the overnight guy kept
begging for a $1,000 song, but never seemed to get one during his shift. Finally
management relented and he got to give away the cash. The winner was on the air live, all
excited, like she was supposed to be, when the jock asked, "What do you plan to do
with the money?" The response? "Well, my infant baby just died and now we can
buy her a headstone." The deejay was speechless.... after all, how do you respond to
that? Another reason why winners are now played back on tape. Note: View this KRUD cartoon
