You're a Listener and you don't get it...

If you don't do your show prep.. you become fair game for anyone in the station that wants to see you embarrassed and cut down a few notches.

KRUD Listener Tip: You're supposed to do show prep...
Before you go on the air. Know who won the game, even though you hate sports. Know who's having an affair with who on Melrose Place, even though you hate the show. Know local politics. Know all the stuff that people complain or talk about at work.....

And be able to talk about all of it.. Convincingly and knowledgeably. This is all part of that "relating to the audience" thing that Program Directors are always coughing up at staff meetings.

Relating to the audience is why we watch stupid sitcoms like Roseanne, buy The National Enquirer, read the sports page, the today section, the entertainment section, etc. Those of us on the air, watch and do lots of things so we can be well informed and relate to the listeners. Most of it is a pain in the ass and a waste of time... why? There are no well informed listeners. They listen to us to get their information.

It would be more fun if the listeners found us interesting just as we are without all the phony relating BS.. it'll never happen. Program Directors and consultants are always telling us to be real... truth is, if we could just be real, we'd probably tell most of the bozos on the phone to piss off! We wouldn't have to know a damn thing about Roseanne, except she needed to diet. We'd relate to the listeners in an amazingly simple way... We'd play music and show respect for it... instead of spending 20 minutes talking about some stupid sitcom or question that has no connection to real life..... we'd be playing music, music we could all relate to. What a concept..
