The Station Hasn't Paid The Bills

In 1986 I was at my first on-air job in the middle of nowhere, in Arizona.  I'm doing a remote one day from the local "Car Dealership" where, it so happens, we purchased the station vehicle.  Well, low and behold, here comes the finance manager out to the tent, and vehicle, demanding to see the general manager (who was the owner and local cattle rancher as well) because  the station, he was just informed, was over 90 days delinquent on its payments.  When I offered no explanation for this (how the hell could I?) he demanded the keys, emptied out our gear  and drove the van around back.  To add insult to injury, he came back and threw a fit because of the condition of  the van after only 6 months.  What did I say to all of this? Would you like a free t-shirt or hot dog?   He just got more pissed and stormed off.
